Shark Weigh-in - Queens County Seafest 2011

As the hour of 6:00pm approaches the fishing boats rush to enter the breakwater of Brooklyn Marina to weigh their catch. Some of the fisherman left the dock at midnight last evening, heading out to open water in hopes of catching the "big" shark. The weigh-in began at 4:00pm and will go on until all of the contenders catch has been measured, weighed and innards removed.  Excitement filled the air as spectators lined the docks and the sharks hung from the winch. Cheers filled the air and children awed in amazement. Considering that this is the 11th Annual Seafest and shark competition the sensation is not lost in the event.

If shark fishing is not of interest to you rest assured that there are many other events to take in; food stalls, entertainment tents, face painting, craft tables and much, much more. Be sure to catch the last of the festivites before the tents are down.

Happy Queens County Seafest 2011
