Dixie Lee Has Returned to Liverpool

Dixie Lee is returning to Liverpool after a 20-year absence, but the family that ran the original store are the ones bringing it back. From left are Greg Bursey, original owners David and Diane Bursey, and new owner Andrew Bursey.

Dixie Lee has returned to Liverpool after a 20-year absence and the family that ran the original store are the ones that brought it back.
David, originally from Halifax, worked in Montreal and Halifax in the computer industry in the 1970's.
Tired of working for other people he felt the need for a change; he wanted to work for himself. Inspired by a cousin that worked in the business, he decided to open a restaurant franchise. The first Dixie Lee store, in Liverpool, opened on Sept. 7, 1972. David sold the franchise in 1993.

Queens County Musuem Expansion

webnewbanner

On November 15, 2012 the announcement was made for the Queens County Museum Privateer Funding and will soon see privateers in their midst. The federal government announced funding of $150,000 for the museum to create an expanded privateering section.
The funding comes through the Canadian Heritage’s 1812 Commemoration Fund, which is aimed at community-based projects to foster greater awareness and understanding of the importance of this conflict.
The expansion at the museum is still in the early stages of design, however plans are for an interactive exhibit, with a scale replica of part of the privateering ship The Packet. The replica will be large enough for people to walk through.
“This is a fantastic move forward for the Queens County Museum,” said George Mitchell, Chairman, Queens County Museum. “Our objective has been to recognize the achievement of one of the most successful privateers, Captain Joseph Barss, and his privateer vessel, the Liverpool Packet. This funding approval leads the way to seeing this dream come to fruition."
The museum will be putting in proposals to find the rest of the funding for the project, estimated to cost around $300,000. Museum staff hope to have it up and running by next fall or early 2014.

The Importance of Being Earnest - casts local actor - Jack Wynters

OPENS:
25th January 2013

It’s 1895, London, and two young bachelors attempt to reinvent themselves in order to impress the families of the young ladies they hope to marry. Innocent deception, love affairs, overbearing aunts, and a slight confusion of names collide amid a flurry of mistaken identities, witty banter and cucumber sandwiches.

Subtitled “A Trivial Play for Serious People” Wilde’s satire captures the shallow foolishness of giddy lovers, snobs and social climbers with sophistication and priceless dialogue.

Best Place to Retire or Semi-retire in Canada

Apart from having the best climate in Canada's provinces Liverpool has streets lined with Victorian homes and is a slow paced laid back community. Trees shade the streets in dappled patterns, the chatters of squirrels and birdsong fills the air and there is  a peacefulness that is impossible to describe. Everyone knows their neighbours and it is a safe place to live where  there is not any fear for your children and  grandchildren to walk down the street.

And even more appealing is the price of housing which is a fraction
of that anywhere else in Canada.
