Liverpool's harbour was first an ancient seasonal camp of Nova Scotia's native Mi'kmaq and was known as Ogomkigeak meaning "dry sandy place" and Ogukegeok, meaning "place of departure".
Liverpool was founded in 1759 by early European explorers and its long and colourful history stretches through the passages of time for its residents of today.
Liverpool, as the largest population centre in the region of Queens County, has a diverse business community. Many large business franchises provide modern convenience, while the community's quaint small shops line the original business district on Main Street.
