This $16 million dollar expansion will begin in May / June of 2012 and construction is expected to be complete by December 2013. The Queens General Health Project will keep Queens General viable and relevant for the future of Queens County.
The current 22 bed medical unit will be upgraded to a standard that will ensure quality care for the community. Four rooms will contain two beds each and 14 rooms will be single occupancy - each bed will include private washroom facilities. The new medical unit will include a model of shared professional care where doctors and nurses align to provide care to acutely ill patients; with advanced technology and equipment to increase the level of patient care.
Queens General Hospital's infrastructure will be expanded and re-engineered to fit a larger footprint to provide a new approach to delivering services in a collaborative approach.
Queens General is a teaching community and the hospital expansion will provide areas suitable for teaching and accommodating ever changing technology.
The completion of this project will effect
- the average hospital patient - with the best possible care
- the health care provider - with immediate access to patient's medical history and better available professional development
- the general community - with an increased focus on staying well and preventing illness
- the health care management - with the attraction and retention of future health care providers.
A thriving community needs a place where its people can receive a high standard of health care close to home; where travelling a long distance is needed only for the most complex health concerns or for specialized care.
