Tiger Warrington - Liverpool's Boxer

Terrance (Tiger) Warrington, born in Liverpool NS, 12th April 1914, boxer, died 01 February 1978.

June5th 1933 – Halifax Arena – Halifax Nova Scotia – Light Heavyweight Terrance (Tiger) Warrington, of Liverpool Nova Scotia, meets former maritime and Canadian Light Heavyweight champion Roy Mitchell in what was to become one of the most controversial fights in Nova Scotia history.

In the first round Mitchell decks Warrington for a two count and from there on the boxers sparred. Action returned in the 9th round when Warrington rocked Mitchell with three rights to the jaw. By the 10th round they were again sparring. Two judges determined that Warrington had won the fight but due to the lack of activity the fight was declared a 'no contest’.

Not long after the bout, Mitchell retired to become an evangelist. He suddenly died in 1951 at the age of 48. Warrington continued his career and went on to greater heights.

Now that Warrington and Mitchell are both dead the true story behind their controversial fight may never be known.

LIVERPOOL'S HISTORY IS LONG, VARIED AND INTRIGUING
